Let's Forget About The Government For A Minute, How Do You Treat Your Gateman?

Sometime ago, I lived in a compound that employed a Nigerien as gate man/security guard. His name was Abdul. He was friendly, spoke clean aboki English and would run errands only if you reward him in cash.  After living in that compound for a few weeks, I discovered that the room Abdul slept in was unpalatable. He had a terrible mattress, rain and Sun beat him there. The landlord refused to fix the room. His duties were to wash every tenant's car, run errands and to open/close the gate. I would watch in despair every time he brings out his mattress for the sun do dry after a heavy downpour and "pack" water from his "apartment". Worse, some of my co-tenants refused to pay their dues to him. The monthly contributions we paid were his salary.  Abdul came to me after a few months of being owed.  Abdul: Welcome madam, abeg I wan tell you something. Me: Wetin happen? Abdul: I wan tell you wetin I never tell anybody for this compound. These pe...

Service: My Experience At The Prison Fellowship Of Nigeria

Hi guys, I joined the Prison Ministry in my church last year for personal reasons. I was not prepared for Falomo Prison, Ikoyi. Neither was I prepared for the stories from inmates. I may share my experiences at the facility later. Today I want to blog about something else. Last Sunday, January 21,  I was privileged by God's grace, to attend a Prison Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) meeting and it was an eye-opening experience. It felt like an old school party in a good way because I was the youngest there and there were many people, most of them in there 60s - 80s. The group spent an hour to honour the outgoing Chairman also known as Chaplain General Reverend Solomon Dipe . What touched me the most was how long; 40 years he spent saving, helping offenders. Assuring them that God is for them and helping them settle in life. See How Surprised He Was At The Honour He told us not to worry about not getting rewards. He said he got his reward afte...

A Letter To GOD

Good Morning, Big Man. How was your 9te? Do U even spend 9tes. Am just curious 'cos U made them. I'm also wondering if U knew that most of us humans spend our 9tes tossing and turning on our beds, worrying needlessly about when our next meals will come. If I may ask, why create the 9te in the first place? Why create the 9te? Is it to remind us of the difference between good and evil, light and darkness, give us a deserved and earned rest after a day of pleasing insatiable customers and superiors? Or just to make us regret our choices? Or to create job opportunities to clean ladies, graduates among them who have lost hopes of using their brains? Do U ever sleep or are U also worried about us? Do U have a bed in which U toss and turn, wondering why human U created with Ur Own hands are unfeeling, selfish and cruel? I know I'm not supposed to complain. It might be a blasphemy but U know/knew my thoughts, good and evil, surely U anticipated this ...
